1. How long does a battery last?
All rechargeable batteries wear out with time and usage. As time and cumulative use increase, the performance will degrade. The life span of a rechargeable battery operating under normal conditions is generally between 500 to 800 charge-discharge cycles. This translates into one and a half to three years of battery life for the average user. When a new battery that originally powered the notebook for two hours is only giving an hour's worth of use it's time for a new one.
2. Increase your laptop battery life
- Detaching your laptop battery from laptop will increase your laptop battery's life up to 75%. When you use laptop plugged in with laptop ac adapter, the laptop will still use the laptop battery. This will make unnecessary charge cycles to your battery.
- Battery adapter should be matched to your battery. Defective adapter will damage batteries or severely reduce their performance.
- Deplete the charge on your battery completely before recharging. While memory effects in modern batteries are much reduced from what they were a few years ago, you will still suffer a loss in the charge a battery will hold if it is not completely drained, resulting in a shorter battery life.
